United Colours Of Chelsea

Throughout the year I attend a lot of events - training, seminars, dinners, shows etc and each time get to catchup with the friendly face, and make new contacts.

Chelsea is one of these events. And here we get to see the best of what there is out there to take back to the studio and adapt and edit for our own designs. I go to be inspired not just by the designs, but by the show as a whole.

I feel privileged to work in such a great industry. Over the years I have built up a great network of designers, contractors and suppliers, and my experience is that the landscaping industry is such a supportive, friendly industry, where you are surrounded by people and business who care about their work/product/design. I can't think of a better job!

Below is a short summery of the day.

Chelsea Flower Show this year was not short on colour! Sculpture, walls, plants - there was so much vibrancy it was impossible not to feel invigorated and uplifted. Thankfully I made it along on a sunny day, but I bet even in the downpours and grey cloud of subsequent days, there must have been many elevated souls there!

Below are some examples of the colour experience for you to see (if you didn't make it up this year).

There were also the gardens with softer, more classically cooler palettes, and these were just as beautiful.

There were many take-homes this year. Paving details, planting combinations, new plants, 'old' plants that are coming back into favour... lots to absorb and mull over. Each time we go to an event such as this, we further develop our own design practices. Continual Professional Development is something I am really passionate about and believe is essential to any professional design studio.
